Fire and Smoke

Photo and map from

The Mission Fire is almost a week old.  I saw the beginning of the fire, about 30 after it started, on my way home from work last Wednesday.  It was become the largest wildfire in Los Angeles County history.

There hasn’t been much wind, so the smoke from the fire has just been hanging in the air, making air quality very bad.

The relative humidity has been extremely low–in the single digits–but the weather is now changing.  This will help the firefighters work on the fire.

It appears that some of the places that I have enjoyed taking the scouts hiking and camping are now toast–burnt toast at that.

If we get any heavy rains this winter, the mountainsides will have some big erosion problems.  The mudslides this season are going to be nasty.
