LAUSD Teachers Protest

For more than an hour, helicopters hovered over my office.  A couple blocks away, teachers affiliated with UTLA, the teachers union, were protesting.  They blocked the entrances to the LAUSD offices and wanted to get arrested.

46 teachers got their wish and were arrested outside the offices.  They said that they were practicing civil disobedience.

Can someone please tell me how being a nuisance furthers the union’s cause or does anything to strengthen the teachers’ position?

Since the LAUSD needs to lay off teachers, perhaps the place to start is with the law breaking teachers that were chauffeured to the police station this afternoon.
